Ngodhe Islands

A day outside, my comfort zone is what I had. a walk in Rusinga Island always has me curious, and quite humbled at the end of the day. It came as a surprise just to realize how marginalization is something that grow out of habit. Somehow some Ngodhe Island is next to Wanyama division in

Rusinga however it always overlooked because community members just assume it in
development plans. Well you can guess what I had for lunch, one sweet Nile perch.......I decided to eat because it did not look like it had been fattened during the cooking process, you know how fast we achieve that, in the name of some nice spiced meal, not that i wouldn't do it that way, but am trying to go back to my roots by trying to push down anything green, low salt, and fatless meal down my food pipe. Was a tough day, but my next plan is to visit the small Ngodhe Island to go beyond the Kiumba beach, a boat ride takes 10-15min depending how rough the waters are.

Monday almost done, waaaaaow

Caught some of this yesterday when coming back, it was kind of funny to see someone playing around with the snake like that, but I sure wouldn't want to be near it anytime of the day.

The ferry was doing a lot of dancing, not quite what you would want, when you have future plans in life and a friend even told me if I had informed him that the ride will be bumpy he could have avoided it. i knew it was gone be like that, the winds were strong, and the clouds pregnant with rain, even though there was a clear rainbow before then. Well a bumpy ride it was, but we finally arrived safely to face another week ahead.

Hon. Prof Anyang Nyongo and Sudan Ambbasador in GLUK

Well you now know where I was, The Ambassador for Southern Sudan was presenting cheque for 100,000US Dollars to the Great Lakes University of Kisumu, where the vice president of Southern Sudan H.E. Gen Dr. Salva Kiir Mayardit, graduated with a honorary degree in recognition of the efforts to bring peace in the region.
The money is for building a memorial hall in memory of Dr. John Garang de Mabior

The Minister of Health in charge of Medical Services, Prof. Anyang Nyongo was among the government officials that oversaw the handing over of the cheque. Also present was the DC for Siaya Mr. Boaz Cherotich, who is among the diverse student population that GLUK has. GLUK approach to teaching is indivudual inherent capacity for communities to solve their own problems using the resources they already have, and hence a need to capacity building only.
A range of programs are offered including Community Health, Agribusiness, Nursing and also a graduate degree in Community Health and Development. Course are tuned to individual requirement with offers for full time, part time and scholl based. Part time also include weekend classes alone. Kenya is still a baeutiful place, but we take the cup for been warm and accomodative people, enjoy your visit.

Caught aloof

Well a great morning, if nothing good happened the day before today, at least you are still in the world alive and that means you have another chance to try again.

Isn't that what our lives are all about, except for politicians who somehow have a way of making things happen, miraculously, excuse my use of the term.

We try out relationships, we try out jobs, we try out businesses, and our life some times become trials, the worst is ..............and errors.

In the midst of tribulations, unknowns, challenges, no money, no fees, friends really do count, and more so acquittance who leave lasting impressions on us. Happened to me this week not an old friend but an acquittance , a friend of a friend who taught me a lesson, that there is more receiving when you give. Its an wholesome experience, its like revival, like a renewal inside your heart, gives you hope that there is a better tomorrow.
As a Kenyan society lets learn the art of giving, lets keep it, you dont give because you have more....... you give because you can afford to spare, not because of surplus, sometime I watch the news and try to look for the good news and it aint anywhere, in the midst of all our problem and challenges as a country, it cant be all that bad, only that when you are in rainy season, the sunny season looks like a much better idea, that you miss the magic of the rains, the hot tea, the gathering around the fireplace and the roasting of the green maize.

The bird flew in through the glass window, quite unfortunate but it was in good condition, and it flew away, not before I could click my camera,

Small threats: not when its against a country

There are no small threats when it comes to people attacking the boundaries of a country, and Kenya is no exception
Its alright for families to fight within themselves at least the clan can come in and help, but if the neighbours attacks the family then there is no recourse other than the family to stop the fighting, and defend themselves. Somebody somewhere is taking our kindness and in fightings for a ride, no matter how much differences we have within, its no a weakness for others to joyride on.
For the sake of the friends I have without the boundaries of Kenya, I wouldn't like to get into a war of words, because a neighbour today is a brother tomorrow, i commend the Kenyan parliament today for rising to the occasion of responding to the mediocre and quite unfortunate statements made by the most to be respected chair in East Africa. Leaders should learn to know what they say, can make or break a country.

With all due respect that statement lacked logic and it was an understatement for the efforts been made to solve an impeding problem brought by wolves in sheep's clothing parading as the great neighbours of Kenya.

As always Kenya has something to offer, we are trying to get the house in order, that is not a weakness.
Had dinner with my friends who are leaving town, at the Rusinga holiday inn, some nice chicken stew and rice, though the chicken needed some more simmering.....not bad. Couldn't help but take the photo attached.

Mkenya halisi!

I am refraining from saying whats in ma mind, not because I cant stand up for it, but I think, all Kenyans will agree we need a breather! We need to get our lives back beyond election 2007, but it seems we are jinxed, or the word is best used with the finance ministry. It seems like we are been hit left and right, been pushed to the edge, and some of our neighbours are not making things easy for us, however we will get through this. all I know is the number that will get there is not the number that exists now. Its a long road to financial freedom, health freedom, tribal freedom and the list is endless.

Kenya has the best to offer indeed to the whole world, but I would love to see the selling of naming rights of very important institutions and organization, which have a place not just in our history but also in our hearts, stop. There has to be another way out that we can use to redeem ourselves, but how can we help. Consensus is a foreign word, consultations are foreign deeds, and public involvement is alien. This should indeed be encouraged, for us as Kenyans to achieve our goals.
Politics aside lets keep those difference where they belong, and enjoy the best that Kenya has to offer

Took that pic today when i went for a walk up the hill it was refreshing, andIi got thinking about Kenya, it people, and all I appreciated is that at least I am Kenyan

Uhuru menance?

A costly typing error indeed, if it goes unnoticed.

Hard to crack! What is the difference between a 9 billion shilling typing error and the self claimed pastor Deya's wife having another miracle baby! You know the math.

Where are we headed to,the rot has eaten into the bones, what we are seeing are sores, rotting with pus, awaiting the final knock on the hammer. This is no longer corruption grande masse, its pure " let the CID tell us, but do we need to wait?

Are some of us preparing another country to live in, such that any destruction on Kenya wont affect them or their future generations. What kind of a greed can drive man to pollute the same soil he will expect a harvest from. I find it ironical "kulipa ushuru ni kujitegemea....." should i look into the horses mouth?

I live upcountry, where i see grandmothers raising grandchildren........ women dying at delivery tables, children preferring to do odd jobs because they are from children led households, we hear hunger from all over the country, IDPs still struggling with starting all over again, HIV/AIDS still getting a stronghold, joblessness, insecurity, this are issues that all Kenyans share, at the grass root level, but we all know just like "shamba la wanyama" there are Kenyans and there are elite Kenyans. You know the ratio, you know the math.

Its pathetic situation that we are been dragged along, pathetic and quite sad, for all those working mothers, and fathers, and those who are not in any formal employment and making the best out of a bad situation, no words can describe the struggles, we can only hope as Kenyans we will be ready for change, we don't need to change the monkeys alone, the forest too need some changes.

Kenya needs an overhaul.

Thanks Lisa for the post card at JKIA and the pics from holiday in Zanzibar, it was great having you in Kenya with us, pass my regards to the Swiss, and you are a reminder that Kenya has a beautiful side to it, karibu tena.

A day at the Impala sanctaury

Been quite a hectic weekend, in the midst of all this a walk at the impala sanctuary in Kisumu

calmed down my nerves and gave rest to my feet that had been subjected to walking, queuing the whole, and was quite far from all the bustle of the streets of kisumu and took my mind and body off the humidifying heat,
I felt in touch with my maker, its a good reminder, however i opted out of the boat ride, after watching the waves nbeat furiously against the boats, will try that in the morning , the next time i visit the park.
Thanks Bonnie for a good suggestion, in the midst of a hectic day, my time on the internet, cannot payoff the nice time i had there......

Mbita point

Got to learn to love this place, grows by the day but everyone who comes back here says it has remained the same.

I dont know either but the greatest asset is the lake, its hard to imagine, living without it, sometimes going to the fishing beaches, having my bear foot in the water is what i just love doing, whoever said water is life was not too wrong.

Ladies Night-Mare

Yeah, looks like my Wednesday is not working out as much as i thought it should, now i can understand why our politicians seems not to have any way forward, we are all trying, me , you, them, but its like some circle, rotating at the same position.

my individualistic opinion is to chill a bit, maybe the cloud over my head will roll over and the sky will be clear again and i will get back on my feet, I sure do hopeone of my good neighbours call for dinner tomorrow i need some socialising the closed up, work, home, work environ has to be broken or else, am tring to hard to make my self happy, aint i got enough blessings to make me jump up and down.....count yours.

Saturday blues

Call it having money and spending it before i earn it, still afraid of retrieving it, so i aint whining today, am too shocked to do that, living from hand to mouth is getting the better of me

Instead of shouting it on top of the roof am calling it a Saturday, and spending it working and cheaply, watch a movie tonight, kneel and pray before I sleep tonight, and wishing that for tonight, a nice crispy clear fermented drink could top up my day, but on another thought, let me feel how am feeling raw and fresh, probably it will make me a better person tomorrow, help me keep my personal accounts beter than i did last month, squeeze some savings and cut down my budget, coz the heat on money is really on and my pockets are emptying before they fill up, oh its crazy.

Good night Kenyans, Vumilia kuwa Mkenya.
