Well you now know where I was, The Ambassador for Southern Sudan was presenting cheque for 100,000US Dollars to the Great Lakes University of Kisumu, where the vice president of Southern Sudan H.E. Gen Dr. Salva Kiir Mayardit, graduated with a honorary degree in recognition of the efforts to bring peace in the region.
The money is for building a memorial hall in memory of Dr. John Garang de Mabior
The Minister of Health in charge of Medical Services, Prof. Anyang Nyongo was among the government officials that oversaw the handing over of the cheque. Also present was the DC for Siaya Mr. Boaz Cherotich, who is among the diverse student population that GLUK has. GLUK approach to teaching is indivudual inherent capacity for communities to solve their own problems using the resources they already have, and hence a need to capacity building only.
A range of programs are offered including Community Health, Agribusiness, Nursing and also a graduate degree in Community Health and Development. Course are tuned to individual requirement with offers for full time, part time and scholl based. Part time also include weekend classes alone. Kenya is still a baeutiful place, but we take the cup for been warm and accomodative people, enjoy your visit.
